Pat Darby, the president of WIXB, was very impressed by Eric Matthews' speech about how he needed the internship more. Due to this, he gave Eric the job over Arthur, who had a much better interview. Initially, Eric was unsure if Pat was telling the truth, because when he met him, he was cleaning up garbage.
Pat took a liking to Eric, too. He allowed Eric to broadcast the weather when the weatherman couldn't make it. Eric was very successful, but Pat took note when Eric began to cut school for the station, and fired him. He said that there would be a place for Eric at WIXB once he graduated college but Eric never returned.
