- Was born of October 20, 1950 in Portsmouth, Virginia.
- Is a self-affirmed navy brat, his father was a naval officer.
- Studied drama at the University of Michigan.
- Married to actress Claire Wren.
- Has one daughter and one son.
- Enjoys thrill sports, such as windsurfing and downhill skiing.
- Trained at the Neighborhood Playhouse, where he appeared on stage with such actors as Al Pacino and Holly Hunter.
- Starred in The Right Stuff (1983), Disorganized Crime and (1989), American History X (1998).
- Appeared in 2 Michael Mann projects: Miami Vice and Crime Story.
- Is well known as arms dealer Roger Lococco from the TV series Wiseguy.
- Began filming Life as a House, but was injured in a motorcycle crash and had to be replaced.
